Synthetic colors — the bright, neon piles sold in plastic packets for fifty rupees. These are industrial chemicals repackosed for celebration. The red often contains lead tetroxide. The green? Copper sulfate. Purple might be chromium iodide. Silver and gold "metallic" shades? Aluminum bromide or powdered mica. They stain fast, wash hard, and linger in skin folds for days.
